Sarika is quite simply the inspiration behind Syrah Arabians. A stunningly beautiful mare, Sarika was incapable of looking anything other than beautiful even in her twenties after having been in the paddock for many years. Every foal bred by Syrah has at least one line to Sarika. The noted German breeder Holger Ismer said of Sarika "If this is the standard towards which Australian breeders are aiming, they will do very well indeed"
Sarika was an outstanding success in the show ring, as her partial show record indicates. More importantly, her beauty breeds on. Her daughter Malmsbury Samira and son Malmsbury Sami were Australian National Futurity Champions, her grandson Sarezin and granddaughter Valouria are Australian National Champions and granddaughter Safiyah is a dual Australian National Reserve Champion, both as a filly and as a mare. Furthermore, all of Sarika's children have been at least A Class Champions.
We were lucky enough to acquire Sarika in 1992, and the first foal bred by Syrah was her daughter Salida. Elmridge acquired Malmsbury Samira at the same time, and the first foal bred by Elmridge was Sarezin. Both these foals have grown up to prove invaluable to the Syrah breeding programme.
Sarika was laid to rest in December 2002. She lives on in the beautiful Arabians which share our lives.
